Dear Volunteer,

Hello - Welcome to our latest newsletter - with some important action points for you! Hope you enjoy a good read.

Mobile:                                                 Are you happy to be contacted by text?  Yes/No

We appreciate that you may have already confirmed your wish to be kept on the database. If so, we apologise for asking you again.

Your  response will help us get a clear picture of all our volunteers, so please do reply to us.
Thank you for your continuing support.  😊

We greatly appreciate that most volunteers not only provide their time free, but also choose to meet incidental expenses from within their own resources, no charge to Second Helpings. This helps deliver our aim to feed bellies not bins at the lowest cost possible. However, we recognise not everyone is in a position to do this and we always want to attract as wide a diversity of volunteers as we can. A full copy of our expenses policy June 2020 is available on our website or email

We have two new media stars – Ted and Henry, aged 6 and 9. Not only have they produced a superb animation as part of their virtual cub camp, but they were also interviewed by Rob Persani on Rutland Radio. If you haven’t heard the interview or seen their video on our new YouTube channel, this will bring tears to your eyes.

It’s not every day you get to chat to your local MP with the Leader of the District Council listening in!
Andy Fyall, Audrey Hensman and Keith Busfield were very fortunate to be invited at short notice to a Zoom meeting with Gareth Davies and Councillor Kelham Cooke– such a huge complement to Second Helpings given what else is happening in the world.
As Gareth wrote in his newsletter: “Like everyone else I have been reliant on video conferencing and even the old-fashioned telephone to check in with some of our local organisations recently. One of my favourite meetings has been with the fantastic organisation Second Helpings in Stamford.” A full copy of Gareth’s article which appeared in the Stamford Mercury can be found here.

Earlier this week Jo appeared as a guest on Amy Claridge’s radio programme – Amy’s Lincolnshire Kitchen. You can hear the interview 2 hours 22 mins & 30 seconds into the recording here.
This was all set up via our increasingly visible new Twitter account
We had a lovely note back from Amy:

Having grown from a fledgling project to an increasingly major local not-for-profit organisation, Second Helpings is now looking for a volunteer Communications/PR specialist to join the Management Committee, adding to the profile of the project. The role will entail anything from writing press releases, radio interviews, Facebook, TripAdvisor, corporate image and messaging, responding to emails and Messenger, developing a photo library, display stands, the website, Twitter etc - but this isn’t by yourself as you are backed by a super Comms team. For full information about Second Helpings take a look at our website, and drop an email to

Finally, thanks again for all your support.
Please stay safe and we hope to see you again soon, conditions permitting.

With best wishes,

Audrey Hensman
